It's the VIP entrance to the American Embassy Rome. It's made of a Forced Entry Balistic Resistant guard booth and a security tunnel with two gates: the guard in the booth opens the second gate only after the first one is closed and the visitor has been identified. This project wants to be a stand alone architecture not competing at all with the 19th century neo-renaissance building behind it. It's based on the American flag pattern where the rectangular is the plan of the booth while the stripes (made of 5 minutes FE glass) are the tunnel framed by the two gates; vertically, the rectangular becomes the security window with the grey and transparent glazed stripes still caging the tunnel. The floor is made of double milk glass with recessed under ground lighting fixtures that during the night cloud the building.
